A final word on my Stirling Marathon journey to say thank you to everyone who supported me before and during the event. A special mention though to the kind hearted who donated a total of £600.00 to my chosen charity for the event Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland. Thank you all. 17/5/2017 Home Soil Marathon17/5/2017 Technical Training#askSCOTT - Question 3 - Stirling Weather - What's it all about?Off-topic this week from the usual business related question as earlier this week because a lot of people were talking about the lack of rain in the Stirling area I was asked by a friend about my Stirling Weather service and how did it come about. It all began in 2009 when I started to record live and historical data from my weather station near the King's Park area in Stirling. It was at that time in late 2009 that our data was made available to the public via the Stirling Weather website which we published and the data was supplemented by the Weather Underground website which also stored our weather data. Over the years our weather instruments have been upgraded to near professional standard and via our website and social media pages Stirling Weather is the go to place for local weather information. See the below weblinks for useful sites and information 12/5/2017 Dry WeatherI've been contacted over the past week from viewers of my Stirling Weather service regarding the lack of rainfall in Stirling over recent weeks so I have looked back on our weather data and have produced the below figures. As it stands rain is expected late tonight(Friday 12th May) but up until end of Thursday 11th we have had 17 full consecutive days without any rainfall in recorded in Stirling. Below is the amount of rainfall recorded in Stirling city centre area between 1st April and 11th May for the past 5 years. 2017 = 5.6 mm 2016 = 84.8 mm 2015 = 114.0 mm 2014 = 149.4 mm 2013 = 116.3 mm Rainfall in Stirling city centre area between 1st January and 11th May over past 5 years.
2017 = 230.4mm 2016 = 549.9 mm 2015 = 489.0 mm 2014 = 652.5 mm 2013 = 319.3 mm 11/5/2017 Stirling MonopolyThis week it was announced that the city of Stirling will get it's own edition of the popular Monopoly board game in time for Christmas 2017 and I know it will be purchased for my family to enjoy. Today the nomination window is open for suggestions to occupy the spaces on the board and while it is a given and correct that landmarks such as Stirling Castle and The National Wallace Monument will feature, local businesses have been taking to social media over the past few days to drum up interest and increase the nomination amounts for their own businesses. I'm sure like me you don't want to see the board become a free advertising space for certain businesses just because they can muster up a lot of nominations and I'm sure the board manufactures are well used to being 'spammed' by businesses in the past for other editions. We want to see the castle, monument, museum, jail, university, shopping centres, sports facilities plus popular streets and areas on the board not the local chippy, butcher, cafe or coffee shop. I'm lucky to be once again working in in the islands of Scotland this week and over the past three decades I've travelled and visited many of the islands, towns and cities in Scotland due to business, family travels or supporting Stirling Albion. If it wasn't for visiting some of these places for work or football I know I would not have naturally visited as many places. The west coast of Scotland has so much to offer and yes it's appeal is enhanced when the weather is fine and settled but if you've been thinking about visiting or know you should explore more of our homeland then don't put it off - make a plan this summer to get out and about even if it's only for a few nights or even day trips to the mainland west coast. The long summer days are energising and the sunsets are just beautiful. More of my West Coast of Scotland photos can be viewed here. I've been in the electrical trade since 1992 and started my first business in 1996. Over the years I've been asked many business related questions from family, friends and colleagues, so #AskSCOTT is my new weekly question and answer post which I'm hoping will help provide helpful business information and advice to some readers. If you have a business related question you think I may be able to help with then please email me. #askSCOTT |
